MY WORK DICTATES COLOUR CHOICE
MY WORK DICTATES COLOUR CHOICE
It is important for an artist to be extremely conscious regarding colour use. I am
very careful and committed towards the use of colour in my paintings. While
thinking about the subject of my painting the choice, execution and
implementation of colour is also uppermost in my mind.
I
have tried to experiment with colour from the beginning of my student life;
water colour, especially, has always influenced me with its soft tonal quality.
I do not use colours directly from the tube, rather I like creating varying
colour opacities by mixing two or more colours together. If raw colour is used
the change of pigment alters the depth and thereby the mood of the painting.
Mood and atmosphere are integral aspects of a painting. Proper mixing and
preparation of colour is very important to achieve the desired mood and
atmosphere; use of a certain colour can either make or break a painting.
Therefore sincere contemplation and strong pre-planning is required to achieve
the desired effect.
Each
individual painting demands its own chromatics. Many contemporary artists like
using colours according to their own particular discretion. However every
object has its own organic colour and deviation from that rule oftentimes
corrupts the objective of a painting.
