I believe that planning is the secret
to the success of any venture; the similar is true in case of painting. I give
a lot of importance to the task of planning before beginning a painting so that
while painting the entire composition as well as the position of every element
on the canvas is firmly imprinted in my mind. If the ingredients that
constitute a painting are not in their correct places then the painting cannot
attain its true potential. However, an ideal painting does not only entail the
correct position of the compositional elements, it also involves correct choice
and use of color to impart the required depth. This quality often shines
through in the work of many British artists. While thinking about the subject
and the composition I deliberate over the placement of individual elements and
how much space on the canvas each will occupy including how much distance they
will be at from each other and what their respective and relative proportions
will be, thereby enriching the visual experience of the viewer.
